Keep scrolling to meet the people that make Bacon’s…well, Bacon’s…..

Steven Reeves

President | Owner

From learning how to sail at the age of four (with the guidance of our original Founders Doug & Dixie Bacon along with his Mom and Dad) to Racing with World Class Sailors in multiple One Design Boating events throughout the U.S.; Steve has surely made a name for himself throughout the Chesapeake Bay boating community. Having been a part of Bacon’s, in some way or another, his entire life; It was very natural for him to take the reins as the families Second Generation President, after the passing of Dixie “MA” Bacon in 2008. When he is not here in the store, You may find Steve putting around on his Mariner 36 sloop, Defever Trawler, Frostbiting on his Cal 25, or Racing with the Farr 30’s. Given his broad racing background, it may come at a surprise when he says, that one of his top favorite racing events is on a Steel-Hull Schooner named “Sally B”, racing down the Chesapeake Bay for the GCBSR. With the well rounded knowledge of sailing he has to offer, many friends and customers will come in just to chat about boats….and if you ask him…that’s what its all about!

Gary Chwazik

G.M. | Service | New Sails

Originally sailing out of Raritan Bay, Perth Amboy N.J. at the Raritan Yacht Club; Gary has had a passion for sailing and life on the water for the majority of his life. Upon his arrival to Bacon’s in the mid-2000’s, he first began as a sail inspector; where he brought an immense amount of knowledge and attention to detail to our consignment program. A few years later, Gary’s ideas and salesmanship background helped increase our New Sail market with the assistance of Dixie and Steve. After the passing of Ma Bacon; and going through the difficult transition the company had to overcome; Gary stepped up and personally took the role of General Manager and conductor of the New Sail Program, which tremendously helped set Bacon’s in the positive direction that we can see today. With his superior communication and attention to detail skill set; customers find that working with Bacon’s for New Sails and Service is a relatively easy process, start to finish. When Gary is not here at the shop, you may find him messing about on his Pearson 26 or cruising the local creeks on his Boston Whaler.

He has certainly made his mark in the Annapolis boating community by assisting with projects ranging from a new halyard setup, to full yacht refits. His specialty is in Anchoring and Windlass selection, so if you are in need of some assistance, feel free to email him. When Robb is not here in the shop, he may be enjoying the great outdoors, or simply…messing about with some cool project.

Stevie Reeves

V.P. | Account Manager

Account Manager for all Consignments. Likes sailing and stuff, doesn’t really like long walks on the beach because of the slopped angle.

Michael Nikolich

Sail Inspection | Service

Whether if its performing crucial tasks fathoms under the sea or measuring a Dinghy sail’s tack angle; this retired Naval Submarine Officer brings a very unique set of skills to the table. Since Mike’s arrival at Bacon’s, we have come to be very appreciative of his precise attention to detail and communication abilities while working with New Sail builds, Service Repairs/alterations, and sail inspections. When he’s not at the shop, you may find him on his Alberg 30 competing on Wednesdays nights or enjoying life with his Wonderful wife and two boys.

Contact Mike:

Paul McCoy

Sales Associate | The “Real” McCoy

With whom may be the most tenured marine industry professional on the east coast, or possibly the U.S.; Paul has acquired an extensive knowledge from all areas of the boating world. From beginning his career in the 1960’s with the old Fawcett’s building, working with Oceana in the 80’s, hanging out with the Donovan crew, and spinning a few props over at Millers Island; Paul has made relationships with some of the biggest names in our industry, to which he still remains friends today. When he is not helping folks with projects or finding items around the shop; every now and then he may pull out an old book/photo or a cool item from days past and all of us crew get to reminisce on some cool piece of maritime history.

George Benisek

Hardware Inspection

Originally George started working with the Bacon family back in the late 90’s as a Sail & Hardware Inspector after retiring from the Navy in ’96. Since then he’s worked for a local rigging shop and was the service manager for a full-service yacht repair company. He’s owned, raced, repaired and restored almost as many boats as Steve. During the winter, you’ll find him in Eustis, FL racing his MC Scow or crewing on Flying Scot’s – until returning to Bacon’s when it gets too “stinkin” hot down there. When he’s not mixing up some epoxy or one of his famous “dirty” Martini’s for friends, you’ll find him in the back office at Bacon’s pricing up hardware items for consignment; that is, if he and Steve aren’t putting around on the Trawler!

Mike Myers

Front Desk

From running some large trade deals to ringing up dock line at the register; this retired Bonds Broker has been a good addition to the Bacon Crew. Mike is truly a genuine guy that brings laughter to many of us here at the store. When he is not manning the front desk, you may find him out on his center console with his Lovely wife Anne, or hanging out with his Son & Daughter down in Florida in the off season.

Jim Peternell

Sales Associate

Often mistaken as a surfer; this Sailor brings a tremendous amount of sailing mindset to the Bacon Crew. Originally learning how to sail in the lakes behind his house in South Carolina, he had caught serious interest in the sailing lifestyle. After mastering the small boat spectrum, Jim shared his sailing knowledge as an instructor in Chicago. After enough time in those cold winters, he then later spent some good time down in Florida, where he caught the serious “bug” of windsurfing (suppose that’s where the surfing identity comes from!). Since then, he has been cruising the waters and living aboard his Islander 36, to which we are fortunate that he has settled down here in Annapolis. Around the shop, Jim helps out with boaters walking in with all kinds of projects and he has good first hand experience and knowledgeable advice to offer. Ya know, a guy like him and a boat shop like Bacon’s; eventually they are going to cross paths, and we are sure glad they did!

Chandler Owen

Organizational Specialist

Making the trip from Tennessee, Chandler has always been an amazing help around the shop. His superior organizational skills come in big hand when he works his magic around this place. Before & after a big sale, Chan will work his way through the ever-so growing consignment racks, and make them look Top Notch. When he is done working his magic here, you may find Chan in one of MANY small boat circuits he is involved in; for not only is he fantastic around our shop, but he is a very exceptional sailor indeed!

First Line of Defense from Sales Reps

The real MVP; Boomer has made his way into Bacon Hall of Fame, as the first dog to lay in the same spot for hours at a time. You can find him guarding his dad’s office or wagging his tail if there is food nearby. When Boomer is not at the shop, you may find him chasing squirrels, patrolling the yard, or watching his favorite tv shows with Mom & Dad.
